9th convocation of BUET on Tuesday

Dhaka, Jan 1 (BDNEWS) – The 9th convocation of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will be held Tuesday at its playground.
Prime Minister and Chancellor of the university Khaleda Zia will give away certificates among the PhDs, postgraduates and graduates.
Education Minister Dr M Osman Farruk, State Minister for Education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon and BUET vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Murtaza will also be present at the ceremony.
This year 934 students, including 3 PhDs, 142 postgraduates and 789 graduates, will receive certificates from the PM. Beside, the best graduate of the university will be awarded 'University Gold Medal'.
BUET authorities formally announced the programmes of convocation at a press conference at the BUET. Prof Dr AMM Safiullah, chairman of steering committee, read out the written statement at the press conference.
Thirteen sub-committees have been formed to make the convocation ceremony a success.
A convocation rehearsal will be held at 10 am Monday.
BUET's first convocation after the Liberation War was held on 20 March in 1973, where 2,224 graduates and 39 postgraduates received certificates from the then president Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury.
Since then, a total of 38 PhDs, 1,707 postgraduates, 17,238 graduates received certificates in 7 convocations held in 1976, 1992, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2004 and 2005.
