Haji Yakub, one of the main accused in the ever-biggest arms haul in Chittagong, was shifted to the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) from Mirpur thana custody Sunday morning, JIC sources said.
Dhaka, March 20 (BDNEWS) – Haji Yakub, one of the main accused in the ever-biggest arms haul in Chittagong, was shifted to the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) from Mirpur thana custody Sunday morning, JIC sources said.
Some selected personnel from CID, SB, NSI and DB are quizzing Yakub maintaining top secrecy about the matter.
On the other hand, after enforcing a daylong transport strike in eastern zone, transport leaders are taking preparations to announce fresh action programme to press the demand for release of Yakub.
Deputy Commissioner (DC-North) Majharul Huq, told BDNEWS that Haji Yakub has been taken to JIC at about 10am from Mirpur thana.
"Yakub was shifted to JIC as it is a very sensitive issue," he said adding, "It is also a very important case and authorities are dealing the incident confidentially."
When contacted, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) and Chief of the Special Branch (SB) Abdul Kayum suggested not asking anything about Yakub. "The case of Yakub should not be published in the media, its only for the intelligence," he said. He, however, said efficient officials are questioning him confidentially.
Mohammad Nasiruddin, who was arrested along with Yakub, has been sent to the jail.
Sub-Inspector Ramijuddin, 2nd officer of Mirpur thana, said Nasir was produced before the court and the court sent him to the jail. "He was not our target and we found no allegation against him except giving shelter to Yakub."
On the other hand, President of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, Shahjahan Khan MP, thanked all workers and owners of transport sector for observing the daylong strike in the eastern zone.
He told BDNEWS that they would soon hold a meeting and announce tougher action programme centrally.
