Extremist leader killed in 'crossfire'

Regional commander of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML-Janajuddha) Mantu alias Masud alias Rahul Raj was killed in 'crossfire' with police early Friday.
Meherpur, March 18 (BDNEWS) – Regional commander of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML-Janajuddha) Mantu alias Masud alias Rahul Raj was killed in 'crossfire' with police early Friday.
Six police personnel were also injured during the gun battle.
Police said Rahul, accused in six murder cases, was arrested Thursday afternoon from Kosba village of Gangni upazila.
Following his confessional statement, police reached Kosba-Bhatpara Jalshuka crossing at night to recover arms. The associates of Rahul who waylaid the police at the place greeted them with hails of bullet.
About 20 rounds of bullet were exchanged between police and outlawed during the battle in which Rahul was killed.
Police recovered a shutter-gun, seven rounds bullet, a cellular phone and two simcards from the spot.
