Indian High Commission hosts reading session of two new books - The Bengalis, The Epic City

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has organised a ‘Book Reading and Signing’ event at its premises on Sunday.

Excerpts from two recent books - ‘The Bengalis: A Portrait of a Community’ by Sudeep Chakravarti, and ‘The Epic City’- The World on the Streets of Calcutta by Kushanava Choudhury – were read out, discussed signed by the authors from India.

Chakravarti is an author of several bestselling works of narrative non-fiction while Choudhury was a reporter before he went on to receive PhD in political theory from Yale University. He returned to write a book on Kolkata.

They were present at the event which is being organised in association with Dhaka Lit Fest – 2017. High Commission of India is the premier partner of the Dhaka Lit Fest.

Dnyaneshwar Mulay, Secretary for Consular, Passport, Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs of the External Affairs Ministry, stressed writing book in one’s own language to preserve local languages and dialects.
