He doubted that the Dec 30 elections will be free and fair. The top lawyer leading the anti-government alliance held a media conference at Dhaka’s Purana Paltan on Sunday.

During the briefing, Dr Kamal described several attacks on ‘paddy sheaf candidates’ including shooting incidents.

The Oikya Front’s election manifesto will be released at a media conference to be hosted in Hotel Purbani on Monday morning, he said.

Dr Kamal, who heads the Gono Forum, has been leading the opposition campaigning against his former political party, the ruling Awami League, with BNP by his side.

Oikya Front leaders have been accusing the ruling party of using violence since the beginning of their campaign. The Awami League also accused the opposition coalition of giving rise to a violent environment with an aim of undermining the polls.

“There is definitely a fear that the polls will not be held free and fair. They (govt) are finding out what the people want. You (reporters) can also find out if you want,” said Dr Kamal.

“We are only providing you the information. I don’t want to comment on that.” he said, when asked about allegations made by the ruling party leaders.
