Dr Hossain, chief of the alliance, was scheduled to lead Oikya Front rallies in Mymensingh but has cited ill health as the reason for cancelling the plan, his allies said.

BNP leaders joined other leaders of the anti-government alliance and set out from JSD leader ASM Abdur Rab’s Uttara home at 2pm on Saturday.

The Oikya Front kicked off their Mymensingh tour with a rally near BNP leader and poll candidate Salahuddin Sarkar’s home in Tongi. The Oikya Front will hold six more campaign rallies on Saturday. The final rally is scheduled to take place near Sherpur’s Municipal Park.

The Mymensingh tour is the alliance’s first road march ahead of the 11th national election on Dec 30. Dr Kamal Hossain, a top lawyer, began the alliance’s campaign journey on Dec 13, when he offered prayers at the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal and Hazrat Shah Paran in Sylhet.
