The prime minister reached Tungipara by road around 2pm on Wednesday. She placed a wreath at the Bangabandhu shrine and attended special prayers along with her family and party leaders.

The prime minister’s motorcade has set off from Ganabhaban at 8.23am on Wednesday and arrived in Tungipara through Mawa.

Leaders and activists waited at different places on the way carrying placards, banners and festoons to support the party symbol ‘boat.’ They chanted slogans supporting their leader. Hasina greeted the crowd in response.

Hasina is contesting the 11th national election from Gopalganj-3, the constituency that covers Tungipara and Kotalipara. She has been elected six times from the seat.

The prime minister is expected to address the rallies planned at Bhanga, Faridpur, Rajbari, Arwa Union, Paturia, Manikganj Municipality, Rabeya Medical College Hospital premises in Dhamrai and Ward-5 in Savar.

The Awami League leaders and activists in Kotalipara have been showing their enthusiasm over the election campaign by their party chief.

“Festivity is in the air. Everyone looks forward to the arrival of our leader. Kotalipara has been decorated for the event,” said Mujibur Rahman Howladar, joint general secretary of the upazila wing of the ruling Awami League.

All necessary arrangements are in place for the rally, said Bimal Krishna Biswas, executive committee member of the Awami League’s local wing.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the prime minister’s rally, he said. The day will be celebrated with colourful processions from 16 unions and municipality areas.
