Guests at an event organised by top trade bodies and social activists’ organisation Aporajeyo Bangla in Dhaka on Monday marking the launch of a platform styled #IamBangladesh made the call.

Apex trade body FBCCI’s President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is seeking a fourth term, for her leadership.

Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan also sought vote for ‘boat’, the electoral symbol of the ruling Awami League.

The BGMEA’s incumbent President Siddiqur Rahman, former president Atiqul Islam, MCCI President Nihad Kabir, DCCI President Abul Kasem Khan, Aporajeyo Bangla President H Rahman Milu, actor Ferdous Ahmed, Dr Nuzhat Choudhury, Prof Syed Ferhat Anwar of Dhaka University’s IBA, Suhrwardy Medical College Hospital Director Uttam Kumar Barua and GTV Editor-in-Chief Syed Ishtiaque Reza, among others, were present.

Voters from different parts of Dhaka also spoke and put questions for the guests.

FBCCI’s Mohiuddin said, “Sheikh Hasina is the leader who can understand what the people want to say. She knows well about the problems even in the farthest regions of the country. These are at her fingertips.

“And these problems can go away under only one person’s leadership – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

A student said Shakib was not as active as cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who is contesting in the election as an Awami League candidate, in seeking vote for the party. Shakib had also sought nomination of the party to contest in the election initially.

“I hope everyone will vote for development in the future. And it is needless to say that the electoral symbol of development is ‘boat’,” Shakib said.

“I am there both directly and indirectly,” he said.

Former BGMEA President Atiqul, addressing the young voters, said, “Around 25 million young voters will cast their vote for the first time in their life in this election.

“Please take the side of development and peace. It will be you who will enjoy the fruits of the way the country is being run,” he added.
