Hasina will leave Dhaka on Dec 12 by road for Tungipara, one of her strongholds.

Upon arriving, she will visit the grave of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, her father.

“She will deliver a speech at a public rally in Tungipara. Then she will launch her campaign at a massive rally in Kotalipara with a speech,” Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak said at a press conference in Dhaka on Monday.

In addition to her Gopalganj-3 seat, Hasina had submitted her nomination for the Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency. But she later withdrew in favour of Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

Hasina’s programme was sent to Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mukhlesur Rahman Sarker in a fax signed by the prime minister’s Assistant Personal Secretary Kazi Nishat Rasul.

According to the statement, the prime minister will leave the Ganabhaban at 8am on Wednesday and arrive in Tungipara around noon by road. She will place a wreath on the Father of the Nation’s grave and take part in prayers at 12:30pm.

At 2:30pm, Hasina will deliver an address as the chief guest of an election rally at the Kotalipara Sheikh Lutfor Rahman Adarsha Govt College field in the constituency.

She will then spend the night at her own home in Tungipara and leave for Dhaka at 10am on Thursday.

Activists from the Awami League and its allies are working to make the prime minister’s rally a success.

A coordination meeting is to be held at the Kotalipara Upazila Parishad Hallroom on Monday to ensure the security of the rally.
