IS said the men shot dead inside Palmyra's amphitheatre were soldiers captured from the city of Homs, the BBC reports.

The men waiting to be killed appear to have been beaten on the face.

Their killers were young males, between 13 to 14. The massacre took place on an amphitheatre stage in front of a large black IS flag, said the BBC.

Palmyra and a nearby modern city, known locally as Tadmur, was captured by IS militants in late May. Twenty other men were killed in the same Roman era theater few days after Palmyra fell.

Accounts known to have links with Islamic State militants distributed the video and it is not clear when it was filmed.
The video went on to show the destruction of Tadmur prison, which occurred in late May.
The soldiers were slaughtered in front of an audience – several hundreds of men in civilian clothes, including a young boy, were watching from the steps of the amphitheatre.
