"We have learnt from the media reports that you are likely to visit Renkoji Temple in Tokyo during this visit. May we humbly request you not to visit Renkoji Temple because for the Indians the only importance of the Renkoji Temple is that the alleged ashes of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose are lying there," said VP Saini, Convenor of the NSKM in a letter to Modi.

The Japanese army claimed Netaji's death in a plane crash in 1945 but his followers never believed he died in that.

Several enquiry commissions to unravel the mystery of his death have been instituted -- without any result.

The Mukherjee Commission of enquiry appointed by the NDA Government led by Atal Behari Vajpaee had concluded that the ashes in the Japanese temple are not of Netaji.
"Though the UPA government led by the Congress party had rejected the report of this Commission, yet all the members of BJP at that time had supported the report of this Commission during the discussion in Parliament. Hence you should not visit the Renkoji temple,” Saini said in the letter.
“Your visit to the Renkoji temple will send wrong signals about the attitude and intentions of your government towards Netaji.”
He appealed to the Prime Minister to accept the report of the Mukherjee Commission.

"In the light of this report, please be kind enough to find out what, when and where ultimately happened to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The countrymen have a right to know about the ultimate fate of the legendary hero Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose," Saini said.
The NSKM also demanded that the Modi government must declassify all secret files about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which successive Congress governments have refused to.

It also wants the Indian government to declare 23rd January, the birthday of Bose, as 'Patriotism Day" as Nehru birthday, November 14, is 'Children Day'.
"Is he not the ultimate symbol of Patriotism, is there any doubt about it," Saini said.
