The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) said on Monday that Jabbar had been elected President of the body for the 2016-19 term at elections held on Saturday.

Russell T Ahmed of Team Creative was elected Senior Vice President, while M Rashidul Hasan of Systech Digital Limited and Farhana A Rahman of UY Systems Limited became Vice Presidents.

Other elected members of the Executive Council are Uttam Kumar Paul of Best Business Bond Limited, Mostafizur Rahman Sohel of Advanced ERP BD Limited, Syed Almas Kabir of Metronet Bangladesh Limited, Sonia Bashir Kabir of Microsoft Bangladesh and Riyad SA Husain of Magnito Digital.

They will serve as directors on the new committee.

Jabbar, who is also the owner of Ananda Computer, said the new committee would work to fulfil its election manifesto, which says “we will work for the country, domestic Software and the Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) sector”.

“Our top priority will be to realize that vision. We will work towards freeing the sector from the dominance of foreign companies. We will move forward with this target,” he was quoted as saying in a statement.
