Barcelona lodged an appeal to the court of arbitration earlier, asking it to reach a decision over the availability of Neymar, who is serving a three-match suspension, before Sunday’s game.

Expressing surprise over the lack of TAD’s clarity on the matter, Barcelona said they would focus on the crucial tie in a statement on Sunday.

“Due to the legal uncertainty surrounding the lack of an announcement clarifying the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) stance on the matter with under 12 hours to go before kick-off, the Club have decided to focus on sporting matters and will not include Neymar in their match day squad,” it read.

Neymar was handed a three-match suspension after being sent off against Malaga on Apr 15 as the Brazilian star sarcastically applauded the referee’s decision. Barcelona lost the game 2-0.

He then missed the game against Real Sociedad.

Barca are three points behind Real in second place, but the Los Blancos [31] have a game in hand.
