Espanyol's Ecuadorian striker Felipe Caicedo made the best of a blunder from Barca centre-back Jeremy Mathieu early in the game to earn some bragging rights over their local rivals.

Barcelona coach Luis Enrique made a string of changes to the regular lineup while resting the attacking force of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

He played a handful of B team players among the main team players like Denis Suarez, Andre Gomes and Mathieu.

Barca's method, however, remained the same as they dominated possession in the early stages, patiently probing to break down the Espanyol defence.

But Espanyol earned the decisive lead in their very first venture into Barca's box.

Jose Antonio Reyes found  Caicedo who rounded Masip before tapping home for the opener ten minutes into the first half.

The MSN trio will return when Barcelona take on Granada in La Liga on Saturday at home.
