Messi claims Uefa's best European player of the year award

Barcelona maestro Lionel Messi has won Uefa's Best Player in Europe award of the 2014-15 season.

Messi took the prize for the second time beating his teammate Luis Suarez and Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo to the award, according to goal.com. 

Uefa President Michel Platini handed the trophy to the Argentina captain after the group stage draw of this season's Champions League in Monte Carlo on Thursday.

The 28-year old showed his sublime class to lead Barcelona to an unprecedented second continental treble by winning the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League last season.

"It was an incredible year for us… I don't know if there's a secret, the dressing room was united and that made for an unforgettable year," he was quoted as saying by goal.com.

Messi also thanked the club and teammates highlighting their importance in his success.

He scored 62 goals in 67 games in all competitions for last season while 10 of them were in the Champions League that is equal to hauls of Ronaldo and teammate Neymar.
