The hosts paid for the failure of their forwards with a 1-0 defeat at the Sylhet District Stadium on Thursday.

Malaysia Under-23, denied thrice by the crossbar, took the lead when defender Md Syazwan Zaipol Bahari fired home from outside the box in the 53rd minute.

Bangladesh frontline proved toothless as their wayward shots and counterattacks made no impact on the scoreline.
Shakhawat Hossain Rony had Bangladesh’s best chance of the match in the 83rd minute. Fed by Mohammed Zahid Hossain, his drive from close range was saved by the Malaysian goalkeeper.
Malaysia will take on Sri Lanka in the same stadium in their next pool match on Saturday.
Bangladesh, too, are set to face the Lankans next Monday at Dhaka’s Bangabandhu National Stadium.
