Bangladesh rout Kuwait on way to Asiad Cricket semis

Bangladesh have progressed to the semifinals of the Asian Games Twenty20 Cricket beating minnows Kuwait by a massive 203 runs on Wednesday.

The defending champions will face Sri Lanka in the last four of the competition.

Bangladesh lost the toss and were sent in to bat at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground in Incheon.

They piled up a daunting score of 224 for nine with a Mohammad Mithun fifty. In reply, Kuwait folded for just 21 runs in 13 overs.

Openers Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque got Bangladesh off to a flier. Before being sent back, Anamul scored 38 runs off 18 balls, with five fours and a six, and paired up for a 30-ball 61-run first wicket partnership with Tamim.

Tamim went back after scoring 28 off 22 with three fours. Bangladesh were then 88 for two.

After that, Mithun and Shakib Al Hasan, who returned to the side after serving a ban, paired up for a 67-run third wicket stand. Shakib scored 23 off 15 with three fours.

Mithun was sent back in the very next over but not before he played a great knock of 25-ball 59. He struck four boundaries and three sixes before being caught at midwicket.

Sabbir Rahman, in at five, took things from there. He scored 35 off 18 balls with a boundary and three sixes. Apart from them, none of the Bangladeshi batsman reached double figures.

Bastaki Fahad bagged three wickets for Kuwait while Bastaki Mahmoud, Alkandari Mohammad and Alotaibi Mohammed picked up two each.

Chasing a massive 225 for victory, Kuwait crumbled as none of their batsmen reached double figures. Alotaibi Mohammed was their top scorer, with just 7 runs.

Arafat Sunny was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers taking 4 for 8. Mahmudullah picked up 3 for 1. Shuvagata Hom, Sabbir and Shakib picked up a wicket each.
