Hamidul 12th, Fayema 11th in weightlifting

Bangladesh had a frustrating day at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

In the men’s weightlifting 69kg category, Mohammad Hamidul Islam only managed 12th place while Fayema Akther was 11th in the women’s 58kg.

Hamidul, 38, lifted a total 255kg, 110kg in the Snatch and 145kg in the Clean and Jerk, in the final at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre Precint on Saturday.
Mohd Hafifi Mansor of Malaysia clinched the first gold for his country in the event lifting a total 305kg.
Fayema lifted a total of 165kg, 75kg in the Snatch and 90kg in the Clean and Jerk.
Zoe Smith, 20, of England took the gold in the women’s 58kg category.
Women’s 10m Air Rifle
Sharmin Ratna finished sixth in the women’s 10-metre air rifle with 122 points at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range.
Apurvi Chandela of India snatched the gold medal with 206.7 points.
Another Bangladeshi shooter, Syeda Sultana, finished 10th in the qualifications.
