By the end of the game many on facebook posted photos of the soft drink 7up. "How many? Ger-MANY!" wrote one user.

A Bangladeshi fan, wearing a Brazil jersey, posted his own photo showing him hanging from a ceiling man in a mock suicide attempt.

On Twitter, God’s account (@TheTweetOfGod) has chimed in with what surely must have been the definitive word: “Stop praying to Me, Brazil. Even I can’t help you now.”

After the fifth goal, the hashtag #ThingMoreLikelyThanBrazilWinningTheWorldCup emerged and soon became the fourth most trending topic worldwide.

Among the possibilities people offered were: "Luis Suarez becoming a vegetarian", "Leonardo Dicaprio winning an Oscar" and "Tom Cleverley winning a Ballon d'Or".

“Perhaps the most sickening thing for Brazil,” wrote Rat Soni on Twitter, “they are eliciting pity from an American.”

Twitter's Darth Vader (@DepressedDarth) sported a photo of the Death Star shooting Brazil from outer space.

Also on Twitter, Spotlight confirmed it: “It’s official! Soccer is a simple game in which 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.”

"Was in a cafe where you could hear a pin drop every time Germany scored. I dropped the pins," another tweet said.

At 9gag, the home of internet memes, some jokes were too explicit to be published on a news website. The ones that were, though, were not very pretty to look at either.

"The Amazon River is nothing compared to the cry river in the stadium during the Brazil vs Germany World Cup match," one user posted along with a collage of photos of Brazil fans crying.

One meme showed Hitler sitting on a couch with a game controller in his hand. The caption read, "Too easy."

The most popular meme, however, was the famous Brazilian statue of Christ the Redeemer covering his face with both hands.
