Goal Scorer:
12' Mats Hummels (GER)

Full Time

90+5' The referee blows the final whistle. Germany advance to their fourth consecutive semi-finals!

90+4' MISS!!! Surely the last chance for France. Benzema scoots into the box and shoots from an angle. The shot is high and Neuer pushes it away with a firm right arm.

90+2' Germany substitution. With two minutes left, Kroos is replaced by Kramer.

90+1' The fourth official shows there are four minutes of time to be added.

France's Karim Benzema (2nd L) kicks the ball past Germany's Mats Hummels (L), Andre Schuerrle (2nd R) and Philipp Lahm but misses a chance to score a goal during their quarter-finals match. Reuters

88' CHANCE!!!
Another late chance for Germany and again Schurrle might have done better. This time he has in on his stronger foot, but crashes his effort into a defender.
85'
France substitution. Final throw of the dice in attack for France, with Olivier Giroud coming on for Valbuena. Three strikers on the pitch.

83' Germany substitution. Ozil off, Gotze on.

82' CLOSE CALLS AT EACH END!!! Valbuena hits a free kick in from the left. The ball is headed off Hummels' head by his own teammate and goes just wide for a corner. Would have been quite an own goal. From the corner, Neuer pulls the ball down and releases Ozil unmarked on the left. He squares to Muller, whose shot is blocked but comes to Schurrle. Schurrle's shot is saved by Lloris to keep France in the game.

80' Germany booking. Schweinsteiger gets a yellow for unending Griezmann after he'd already tackeld the Frenchman. But Griezmann had evaded him and was on his way towards the German back four with the ball at his feet.

75' Finally some attacking play from the French. It's not the best and it's defended well by the Germans. Benzema's shot is blocked by Hummels. Then Matuidi hits a shot at a very tight angle on the left byline. France are getting more possession now and in dangerous areas.

69' Germany substitution. Klose off, Schuerrle on.

64' Valbuena takes a short corner and then clanks the ball towards the back post, where Benzema traps the ball on his chest only for the referee to blow for handball.

60' Matuidi overlaps Valbuena on the right and wins a corner. Valbuena takes it and it is cleared, but only to Cabaye on the far side. He swings the ball back in and Varane makes solid contact on the ball and heads it towards Neuer's upper corner. The German makes the save though.

Germany's Sami Khedira jumps for the ball with France's Antoine Griezmann during their quarter-finals match. Reuters

54'
Sami Khedira booked. Kroos find Lahm on the right but cross is blocked and France break. Khedhira brings down Griezmann near the half-way line and the midfielder is the first name into the book.
49'
Klose plucks the ball out of the air before looking to his right for Muller. His angled ball in the direction of Ozil is just too long and goes out of play near the corner flag.
46'
The second half is underway.

Half Time

45+1' The referee blows for half-time.

45' The fourth official shows there is one minute of time to be added.

44' CHANCE!!! Benzema finds a few yards of space on the left for the first time in the half and cuts inside on his left foot. But the shot lacks venom and is straight at Neuer.

42' HALF-CHANCE!!! A shot by Karim Benzema is blocked. A cross from the left finds Benzema. He tries to direct his header back across goal but it fires straight into the midriff of Mats Hummels and the hand-ball appeal is rightly turned down.

39' The match resumes with a drop ball.

38' Sami Khedira is down injured and receives medical attention on the field.

France's goalkeeper Hugo Lloris deflects the ball away beside teammate Raphael Varane (C) and Germany's Mats Hummels. Reuters

34' SAVE!!!

31' The Kroos corner causes France a few problems and Varane heads away before Lloris can get his fist to it.

30' Free kick to Germany on the right edge of the penalty area as Klose is felled by Evra. The Ozil free-kick is deflected behind for a corner on the left.31

24' Penalty shout from Klose. Klose goes down under a Debuchy challenge but the Germany forward was clearly looking for something after losing control. The referee is not interested.

21' Matuidi sends a ball over the top for Benzema but it's just too long and bounces through for a goal kick.

18' Good run from Pogba after turning his man on the right wing but Lahm cuts out the attempted throughball after the French ace tries to find Griezmann.

France coach Didier Deschamps makes two changes from the team that beat Nigeria 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals.
He replaces Shkodran Mustafi in the defence.
Mats Hummels, who missed Germany's last 16 match 2-1 win against Algeria because he was ill, replaces Per Mertesacker in the back four while coach Joachim Loew has switched captain Philipp Lahm to right back from midfield.
It is also his 135th cap making him Germany's second highest capped player behind Lothar Matthaeus.
Klose is making his first start of the tournament and seeking to become the sole top scorer in World Cup history after pulling level with Ronaldo of Brazil on 15 goals when he scored against Ghana on June 21.
Miroslav Klose is named in Germany's starting lineup, taking the place of Mario Goetze who has failed to impress so far.
After a laboured extra time 2-1 win over Algeria in the round of 16, the Germans are facing mounting pressure from their fans, desperate to see an end of their title drought.
They have come close in the past two tournaments, reaching the last four but stumbled at the penultimate hurdle.
For Germany, it has been 24 years since their third and most recent World Cup crown.
Four years later it was again the Germans who killed off their world Cup dreams with a 2-0 victory in Mexico.
After scoring twice to lead 3-1 in extra time they conceded two goals and crashed out on penalties in what has become known as 'Seville '82'.

The Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

They have only excruciating memories of their last two World Cup battles against them, losing a nerve-racking semi-final in 1982 in Spain.
Reaching the last eight with solid teamwork has already done much to rebuild their image but facing the Germans in a knockout game is motivation in itself.
France, who have scored 10 goals in four matches in Brazil, have already gone a long way to restoring some pride after their hapless first round exit in 2010.
Germany and France come into their quarter-final match-up at the Maracana in Rio with some of the highest expectations in the tournament.
