His teammates Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das, too, had endured similar attacks on the social media after they greeted their fans on Durga Puja in October.

Sabbir posted the Christmas greetings on his page at 10:35am on Friday. Sixteen minutes later, he posted another status wishing his fans the best on Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Both the posts met with a barrage of hate responses from fanatics.

One Taqiul Hasan Spandan commented, “Despite being a Muslim, you are wishing Christmas greetings! Are you a Muslim or a Christian?”

Similar comments flooded the posts.

However, there were many fans who strongly protested such hate responses. Sabbir himself protested the fanatics’ comments.

“Please refrain from commenting something which shows religious intolerance. This is my Fan Page --- only for my fans,” the cricketer wrote in a post on Saturday morning.
“If you don't like it you can go somewhere else. I did not force you to visit my fan page. If you still keep commenting rubbish, I will have to take action against you.”
Supporting Sabbir, one Mahmudul Hasan Shibli commented, “Bravo! [It] Feels good.”
“These fanatics are the people who sowed the seeds of radicalism and extremism in the past. It feels good that instead of stepping back, you have countered them. Go ahead.”
Another user, Abdullah Al Maruf, wrote, “It is our duty to report the IDs that post comments showing religious intolerance.”
