According to a financial statement submitted to the Election Commission, the party said the funds mostly came from subscriptions and donations collected during last year’s council meeting.
A BNP delegation led by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi submitted the financial statement for the year 2016 to the EC on Monday.
The party had declared shortfalls for the last two consecutive years.
The ruling Awami League also submitted its account statement to EC on the same day, which shows a deposit of Tk 250 million, though it claimed the income dwindled.
After submitting the statement, Rizvi said there was a total deposit of a little over Tk 41.3 million in the party fund last year, of which Tk 39.9 million was spent on party activities, leaving a surplus of Tk 1.4 million.
“We received some donations during the council in 2016, so there was a surplus," he added.
In 2015, the party had an expenditure of Tk 18.7 million against an income of Tk 17.3 million. In 2014, the BNP’s income was Tk 28.7 million and the expenditure was Tk 35.3 million.
