Awami League Adviser Md Ishak Miah dies

Awami League adviser and close colleague of Bangabandhu Md Ishak Miah has died.

He passed away at 10:50am on Monday at Max Hospital in Chittagong city, said Chittagong Metropolitan Awami

League Vice President Khorshed Alam Shujon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her condolence over the veteran politician's death, said her Deputy Press Secretary of Ashraful Alam Khokan.

Miah was 87 and leaves behind three sons and seven daughters.

Miah, who was elected in the 1970 polls, had been admitted to the hospital with heart problems.

He was also suffering from various complications due to old age, said the family.

The Awami League leader was a key organiser of the Liberation War struggle in Chittagong and also served as a vice president of the party's city unit for long.

Miah’s body was taken to his home in the city's Agrabad, where leaders, activists of the Awami League and its allies paid their final respects.
