Habibur Rahman, chairman of Gotti Union Council, and a local Awami League leader Hafizul Matubbor had long been engaged in a feud at Lokkhondia village of Saltha Upazila, said police.

“On Sunday morning, their followers started a brawl leaving one dead and 15 injured. They also vandalised five houses and torched four,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police AFM Mohiuddin.

The ASP identified the deceased as 32-year-old Chhoro Matbor, a follower of Lavlu.

Locals took the injured to different local hospitals including Faridpur Medical College Hospital, he said.

Additional police have been deployed around the area to avert any more trouble, added ASP Mohiuddin.
