“The president has consulted the political parties and formed an election commission through a search panel. We hope the commission can fulfil the nation’s hopes and work in an impartial way,” senior leader Mahbubul Alam Hanif told bdnews24.com on Tuesday.

The AL joint general secretary leader said he believes the former Secretary KM Nurul Huda-led commission will be acceptable to all.

President Md Abdul Hamid selected five commissioners from the search panel’s recommendations on Monday night. The government announced the appointments that same night.

The four other commissioners are former additional secretary Mahbub Talukder, former secretary Rafiqul Islam, former district judge Kabita Khanam, and former army brigadier general Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.

The search panel chose two names each from the Awami League and BNP’s proposals for its list of ten recommendations.

The president chose Kabita Khanam from the AL’s proposals and Mahbub Talukder from the BNP’s list.

The impartiality of the commission is ‘proven’ by the equal number of AL and BNP recommended commissioners, said Mahbubul Alam Hanif.
