“No one can get away after committing a crime. It does not matter if he is influential. Noor Hossain has been expelled from the party,” said Obaidul Qauder after he inaugurated a bridge at Mushiganj’s Tongibarhi on Friday.
Haimchar Upazila Council Chairman Noor Hossain Patwari has been embroiled in controversy after pictures and a video of him walking on the back of a student, lifted by his peers for a sports display, surfaced on Facebook.
Patwari, general secretary of the Upazila Awami League unit, performed the 'Padma Bridge' walk on Monday at Nilkamal Osmania High School during its annual sports day.
A case has been filed against Patwari and the school administration. The government formed a probe committee to look into the matter.
Obaidul, the road transport and bridges minister, said no one would get away after committing a crime, no matter how influential they may be.
"What Noor Hossain did with the students is despicable. People who commit such appalling acts must be opposed."
Noor Hossain's expulsion from the party would be coupled with steps for administrative actions against him, he said.
