The ruling party called the meeting the day before it has to submit recommendations for election commissioner to the president-formed search committee.

The meeting is scheduled for 8:30pm at the prime minister's official residence, the Ganabhaban, according to a statement signed by the party's Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan.

On Jan 25, President Md Abdul Hamid formed the six-member panel headed by Appellate Division judge Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and tasked it with forwarding recommendations within 10 working days.

The other members are High Court judge Justice Obaidul Hassan, Bangladesh Public Service Commission Chairman Dr Muhammed Sadique, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Masud Ahmed, Dhaka University English Department Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, and Chittagong University Pro-VC Shireen Akhter.

The six-member search panel held its first meeting on Saturday and asked political parties to propose names of five preferred individuals.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told the media after the meeting that the 31 parties, which attended the Bangabhaban talks, have been asked to forward their preferences by 11am on Tuesday.
