"We have pretty much a clear idea what this search committee will deliver. That's why as a political party, we do not have any hope," senior leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
His remarks came on Saturday, when the six-member panel held its first meeting.
"If their activities reflect the people's desire, then we will believe that they will rise above petty political interest. I don't know whether they can do it and not very hopeful about it," said the BNP secretary general.
He was speaking to the media after paying homage at BNP-founder Ziaur Rahman's grave with the newly-formed committee of the party's youth affiliate, the Juba Dal.
The BNP leader claimed almost all of the members of the search panel are affiliated with the ruling Awami League.
"The people of Bangladesh hoped that an impartial search committee to form an unbiased Election Commission will consist of neutral persons. But it's unfortunate that it did not happen."
