“Let them unite first,” said the leader following recent remarks of senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed.

Moudud had said BNP would be left with no option but to organise a movement if a “neutral caretaker government” was not formed to hold the next parliamentary elections.

“They (BNP Leaders) are divided into factions. One describes the other  as ‘agents of Awami League,’” Obaidul told reporters at Dhaka’s Manik Mia Avenue on Saturday.

Obaidul, who is also the road transport and bridges minister, visited the area to inspect BRTA’s (Bangladesh Road Transport Authority) mobile court.

In 2015, BNP called for continuous nationwide blockades and shutdowns to topple the government that had come to power through the tenth national polls in 2014.

Since then, the ruling party leaders have been raising questions over BNP’s capability as a political party as “it failed to bring down the Awami League government.”

BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed is Obaidul Quader's rival in the parliamentary constituency of Noakhali.

“It is good if they can organise a movement. Moudud has not been seen hitting the roads in a long time,” said Quader.

The government would handle them politically, he added.

“As you have seen before, they only unleash violence in the name of movements,” he said adding that would be properly thwarted if the BNP took that path.
