The acting editor of daily Amar Desh is accused in 70 cases including sedition.

He has also acted as energy adviser to BNP chief Khaleda Zia during her last term as prime minister.

Mahmudur was released from Gazipur's Kashimpur Jail-2 on Wednesday noon after verification of bail documents, Jailer Nashir Ahmed told bdnews24.com.

He had been in prison since his arrest from the now-sealed newspaper’s office on Apr 11, 2013 over charges of sedition and for publishing Skype conversations of a war crimes tribunal judge.

Mahmudur stands accused of attempting to abduct and murder in US Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, who is also her ICT adviser.

BNP vice-chairman SM Jahid Hossain and chairperson’s adviser Farhad Halim were among party leaders who greeted Mahmudur with bouquets at jail gate.
