Senior leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday it was 'apparent from the tone'.

"The language they had used makes it clear it was all decided beforehand," he told a discussion. "Just like those processions taken out immediately after the budget is proposed, with banners reading slogans denouncing it."

The BNP secretary general claimed that the Awami League was 'ready to reject the proposal.'

"Just after the BNP chairperson finished her speech, a reporter told me that the Awami League has rejected it."

Khaleda appeared before the media on Friday, when she outlined a 13-point proposal on the formation of the next EC and how it will hold the next general election.

She said the next Election Commission will have to be formed on a consensus reached by every registered political party or those elected to Parliament ever since independence.

In an instant reaction, the Awami League said there was nothing new in Khaleda's proposals.

General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the former prime minister's speech was ‘devoid of substance’ and 'nothing but a joke'.
