A number of new faces, however, have made their way to the central committee formed in the party's 11th Congress.

Selim and Zafar were re-elected on Tuesday for a second time - for next four years.

A total of 530 councillors of CPB, one of the oldest political parties in Bangladesh, elected 43 members of the central committee during the four-day Congress, the party said in a media briefing.

The central committee members then elected Presidium members along with the two top posts amidst rumours that the general secretary would be changed.

Eight names of the 10-strong Presidium have been announced. Haider Akbar Khan Rono, Md Shah Alam, Lakshmi Chakrabarty, Kazi Sazzad Zahir Chandan and Rafiquzzaman Layek retained their post in the Presidium.

The new members of the Presidium are Shaheen Rahman, Mihir Ghose and Aniruddha Das Anjan.
