BNP leaders Khaleda, Fakhrul invited to Awami League National Council

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have been invited to the forthcoming 20th Awami League National Council.

A delegation led by Awami League Deputy Office Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das delivered the invitation for Khaleda Zia at the Naya Paltan BNP headquarters on Thursday morning.

They were received at the office by BNP Assistant Organising Secretary Abdus Salam Azad and other party functionaries.

The delegation then delivered the invitations.

Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul met the delegation and the two sides exchanged pleasantries.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the 20th Awami League National Council on Saturday at Suhrawardy Udyan.

The council will be held for two days.

“We came to invite BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to the council,” said Mrinal Das.

“We hope they will accept our invitation and attend the council.”

Other political parties have also been invited to the event, he said.

“In the interest of promoting political openness and democracy we have invited other political parties to our event he said,” he said. “We have invited every party except those who oppose the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.”

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam were invited to the BNP’s 6th national council on Mar 29, but did not attend.
