BNP leaders, activists pay last respects to Hannan Shah

Leaders, activists and supporters of the BNP have paid their last tributes to ASM Hannan Shah, a member of the party’s policymaking National Standing Committee and former minister.

The coffin carrying his mortal remains was taken to the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on Thursday afternoon.
 
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other top leaders had draped the coffin, placed on a stage erected on the street in front of the office, in a party flag.
 
Then they placed wreaths on the coffin on behalf of BNP chief Khaleda Zia.
 
A Namaz-e-Janaza was held there after Zuhr prayers.
 

Fakhrul told reporters that special prayers and a Milad Mahfil would be held at the party headquarters after Asr prayers on Saturday for Hannan Shah.
His body will be kept at the Combined Military Hospital mortuary on Thursday night after another Janaza at the Gausul Azam Jame Mosque in Mohakhali.
On Friday, his remains will be taken to Gazipur. After three funeral prayers at three spots there, Hannan Shah will be buried beside his father’s grave at his ancestral home at Ghagtia village in Kapasia.
His younger son Shah Reazul Hannan said special prayers for his father would be held at ther Mohakhali DOHS home after Maghrib prayers on Saturday.
Earlier on Thursday, a Janaza was held at Mohakhali DOHS Jame Mosque around 10:30am and another at the South Plaza of Parliament around 11:30am.
Both funeral prayers were attended by BNP leaders, MPs, politicians from different parties, teachers and many eminent personalities. They also paid their last respects after the funeral prayers.
The BNP is observing four days of mourning over Hannan Shah’s death.
Shah died at the Raffles Heart Centre in Singapore early on Tuesday from cardiovascular diseases. He was 74.
His body was brought back home on Wednesday evening.
After his body was taken to his Mohakhali home, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia went there to express her condolences to Shah’s bereaved family.
