The public meets held about an hour before the speech within 100 yards of the UN headquarters witnessed barbs flying thick and fast.

No untoward incident was, however, reflected.

The Awami League speakers lashed out at the BNP-Jamaat alliance for trying to stall the development taking place under the Hasina's leadership.

The Awami League raised slogans like "Where BNP is, protest there shall be" as they lashed out at the BNP-Jamat alliance.

Jessore MP Monirul Islam, New England chapter AL President Yusuf Choudhury, Washington Metro AL President Sadek Khan, UN Awami League members Akter Hossain, MA Salam, MA Jalil, Abdus Salam Azad, Irene Parvin and others were present on the Awami League side.

The BNP side was represented by vocalist Baby Najnin, Tareque Foundation International Committee chairperson Akter Hossain Badal, UN BNP's Gias Ahmed among others.

Washington unit BNP's General Secretary JMM Hossain, Joint General Secretary Touhidul Islam Tuhin, Organising Secretary Najmul Hoque Kamal and others joined the gathering under a different BNP banner.

But suddenly the two BNP factions raised vigorous slogan--"Remove Hasina, rescue Bangladesh-Khaleda Zia's call".

They called for stopping "attacks on opposition leaders" and other slogans targeting the ruling side.
