"The commission is appointed by the president after consultations with all concerned. The commission appointed by the president must be acceptable to all," General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told a media briefing on Thursday.
The term of the Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad-led current commission expires in February next year.
Law Minister Anisul Huq had recently dropped hints that, as in the previous instance, a 'search committee' was being constituted for a new commission to be put in place.
The BNP, meanwhile, has had a jibe at the proposed initiative.
"Do anything, constitute anything. But a verdict that does not reflect the popular verdict will not be tolerated by the people of this country," Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
In a rebuttal to the BNP leader's remarks, Syed Ashraf said on Tuesday, "If we create controversy around everything, around constitutional institutions, where do we go and seek refuge?"
Directing his remarks at BNP leaders, he said, if 'unnecessary,' controversies are sought to be created about constitutional bodies, democracy will not survive in the country.
The public administration minister said that these institutions should be protected and preserved and kept above controversy by people as civilized life would collapse if they crumbled.
