The prime minister will return to the country on Sep 26 after attending the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam made the announcement on Tuesday at party’s Dhanmondi office.

A mass gathering will receive the premier at the airport at 4pm and escort her on her way to Ganabhaban, said the leader.

“The reception aims to honour Hasina for her various achievements during the trip including fruitful discussion with the Canadian president over getting back the murderers of Bangabandhu to Bangladesh,” he said.

Hasina attended the “Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund” in Canada and delivered a speech at the UN General Assembly plenary on refugee rehabilitation during her 12-day trip.

Last year, a similar reception accorded to Hasina upon her return from the UN General Assembly resulted in woes of commuters as massive traffic congestion was created on different roads in the capital.

Replying to a query of journalists, Ashraf said everyone was responsible for fighting terrorism and it was not the sole responsibility of the Awami League.

“Terrorists won’t be spared by the government regardless of which party they belong to,” said Ashraf.

He hoped that BNP would turn back to democracy following political manners.

When asked if anyone from Pakistan would be invited to attend the national conference of Awami League to be held next month, the leader said: “Not everyone in Pakistan was against our freedom. Therefore, some democratic parties might be invited. We have not taken any final decision yet.”
