The Awami League, one of the oldest political parties of the country, on Thursday on its official Facebook page announced that the account, Awami League @albd1971, is now verified.

A white tick mark within a blue circle can now be seen next to the name on the account, which is followed by 24,800 users until Thursday.

According to the microblogging site, the blue verified badge on Twitter lets people know that an account of public interest is authentic.

The badge appears next to the name on an account’s profile and next to the account name in search results. It is always the same colour and placed in the same location, regardless of profile or theme colour customisations.

Accounts that do not have the badge next to their name but that display it somewhere else, for example in the profile photo, header photo, or bio, are not verified accounts, according to Twitter Inc.

An account may be verified if it is determined to be an account of public interest.

The Awami League’s Facebook page was verified on Feb 10, 2014.
