Police detain BNP assistant office secretary, 10 others from near party headquarters

BNP Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu and 10 other party activists have been detained.

Witnesses said that the police in front of the Naya Paltan party headquarters took them away between 10 and 10:30am.
 
“Police first whisked away four of our people. Tipu was nabbed later with several other activists when he arrived at the party office,” said BNP activist Shamim Jaman, who claims to have witnessed the incidents, told bdnews24.com.
 
Police personnel, posted in front of the party office said they were taken to the Paltan Police Station.
 
Paltan police OC Morshed Alam confirmed detaining some BNP activists, but did not provide details.
 
Police had been posted in front of the BNP headquarters since early morning Thursday ahead of the High Court verdict on Tarique Rahman’s money laundering charges.
 
The court scrapped the trial court’s verdict which acquitted him and ordered seven years in prison for the BNP senior vice-chairman.
