Awami League to observe founding anniversary on Thursday

Bangladesh Awami League, one of the country’s oldest political parties, is going to observe its 67th founding anniversary through various programmes on Thursday.

The party will start the celebration hoisting the national and party flags at its Bangabandhu Avenue headquarters in Dhaka and all its offices across the country.

The Awami League leaders, led by party chief Sheikh Hasina, will place wreaths to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mural at the Bangabandhu Museum in Dhanmondi in the morning.

A programme is scheduled to be held there.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will later preside over a discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.

She has greeted the leaders, activists and supporters of her party and the people on the occassion.

In a message, she remembered the leaders who worked for the party tirelessly until their death.

She said Awami League led all major movements during the struggle for independence.

Awami League came into being at Rose Garden in Old Dhaka’s KM Das Lane in 1949. The party led the Bengalis during the Liberation War in 1971.
