Fahim was caught red-handed on Wednesday while trying to kill a Madaripur college teacher.

The court had sent him on a 10-day remand on Friday. But a day later he was killed in a gunfight while in custody.

In a press release on Saturday, Ambia and Prodhan wondered if such secret killings were deliberately staged to protect the identities of the "godfathers" behind a recent spate of attacks on seculars, free thinkers and non Muslims.

On Saturday, BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, too, had asked if such ‘encounters’ were an attempt to shield the masterminds behind the ‘target killings’.
