The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi held a press conference on Tuesday after a leader of the ruling Awami League called on Islamist parties to start protests against the alleged conspiracy.

“They can be Islamic, secular or atheist depending on what is necessary for gaining support,” he said.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif had said ‘Jews and Christians’ were enemies of Islam.

“When they attacked Palestine, all religious parties in Bangladesh held protests. Where are you today? Why are you quiet?” he told a party meeting.

Rizvi said the comments were ‘ridiculous’. “These very people removed Allah’s name from the Constitution. Now they are creating fiction about Aslam Chowdhury.

“People know they are making up drama to win their support.”

The matter came under discussion recently after a Bangladesh daily had reported on a meeting between BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury and Israel’s ruling Likud party leader Mendi N Safadi in India.

The ruling party leaders claimed Chowdhury, who has been arrested, was part of the BNP’s plan to hatch a conspiracy with Israel and its spy agency Mossad to oust the Sheikh Hasina government.
