BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi pointed out that his party chief Khaleda Zia made the demand based on specific information. “It’s not her duty to prove it.”

“Sajeeb Wazed Joy must prove he is innocent,” he said speaking at a discussion on Saturday.

Khaleda had made the comment after condemning the arrest of her advisor Shafique Rehman in Dhaka over a plot to kill Joy in the US.

She said the sum of money had been mentioned in a verdict by a US court which sentenced three to jail including Rizvi Ahmed Caesar, son of an expatriate BNP leader, convicted of bribing an FBI agent for secret information on Joy.

Referring to the US case, Khaleda, during BNP's May Day rally, said, “The case files say there is $300 million, which is equal to Tk 25 billion, in an account of the prime minister’s son.”

Joy hit back at the former prime minister on social media the same day.

“Madam, if you know where the $300 million is, please let me know. I would like to donate it to orphans,” his post on Facebook read.
