Muradnagar Upazila Press Club General Secretary Md Shariful Alam Chowdhury lodged the case in Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahad Bin Amin Chowdhury’s court on Tuesday.

Chowdhury, the assistant secretary of the Awami League's student wing the Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Muradnagar unit, is also the president of the Upazila unit of the pro-Awami League Amra Muktijoddhar Sontan.

His lawyer ST Ahmed Faisal said the court had ordered the district information officer to investigate and submit his report by Jun 2.

According to case details, Khaleda Zia, at a party rally on Saturday, said the prime minister’s ICT Affairs Advisor Joy had $300 million, which is equal to Tk 25 billion, in a bank account.

Her ‘baseless, motivated and obfuscatory’ comment had defamed the plaintiff locally, it claimed, prompting him to seek Tk 10 million in damages.
