“The minister has no account or page on Facebook. All those that exist right now are fake ones,” his Assistant Personal Secretary AKM  Sazzad Hossain told bdnews24.com on Monday.

He was approached for confirmation after bdnews24.com found several pages and an account in Syed Ashraf’s name.

One of those pages opened using his name was 'liked' by more than 24,000 people until 7pm.

Identifying Syed Ashraf as a ‘politician’, this page also says in the about section that he is an MP and the public administration minister.

A post on Apr 29 on this page said, “Active young leaders will take the helm of Mymensingh District and Metropolitan Awami League units. Total four persons – two persons each – will come in the leadership of the District and Metropolitan Awami League units.”

This page has been regularly sharing news reports and posting updates of the ruling party leader’s activities.

Another Facebook page was found opened in his name and liked by 87 people.

This one’s last post, on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was made on Aug 31 last year.

An account of Syed Ashraf was also found on the social networking site, but it showed no information about him. It was apparently last seen active in January last year.

All these pages used the minister’s photos in profile pictures.

His APS Sazzad Hossain said they were aware of these fake Facebook pages. “None of them are the minister’s.”
