She also said the BNP and Jamaat had conspired over the Padma Bridge project.
The prime minister was speaking at a citizens’ meet at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Eye Hospital and Training Institute on Saturday in Gopalganj, the district she hails from.
Earlier in the morning, on reaching Gopalganj, she went to her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s grave at Tungiparha to pay respect.
She inaugurated several projects including Chanpail Bridge on the river Madhumati, a post office at Tungiparha, and the district’s Shishu Academy complex. She also laid foundation stones for several other projects.
Speaking at the citizens’ meeting, the prime minister cited the recent spate of murders, including those of secular bloggers ad activists.
“BNP, Jamaat are busy in clandestine killings after they failed to topple the government. They can’t do anything other than burning people to death and destroy assets,” she said.
She also stated that she had not formed the government to amass wealth through corruption.
“There was a conspiracy to destroy our image through scandal over the Padma Bridge. So we are building the bridge with our own money.
“If BNP and Jamaat had not conspired over the Padma Bridge, the project would have seen much progress by now,” she said.
She also stated that her government was planning to set up medical universities in each division.
She said she would come again to the eye hospital named after her mother to test her eyes.
