The court of Dhaka’s Third Special Judge, which was scheduled to hear the former prime minister’s statement on Monday, now fixed May 5 for the deposition.

The decision came following a plea by Khaleda.

Defence counsel Sanaullah Mia said that in their petition they cited Khaleda’s illness and a pending plea with the High Court over ‘faulty deposition’ by the investigating officer.

The BNP chief stands accused of embezzling Tk 31.5 million of the Trust in the case by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

The case was filed in 2010 against Khaleda and four others.

In 2012, charges were pressed against four, including the former prime minister.

Khaleda’s former political affairs secretary Haris Chowdhury, former BIWTA acting director Ziaul Islam Munna and former Dhaka mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka’s personal secretary Monirul Islam Khan are the three others accused in the case.

In 2013, the trial began after the court indicted the four.

On Mar 31 this year, the defence finished cross-examining the investigation officer ACC Deputy Director Harun ur Rashid.

Two others accused in the case — Ziaul Islam Munna and Monirul Islam Khan — have pleaded not guilty while Haris Chowhdury is absconding.
