One of the inured is being treated at the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) with injuries caused by a sharp weapon.

Police said two factions of the organisers were involved in the incident, while the organisers claim they were attacked.

Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Mizanur Rahman Khan said the demonstration had been organised to protest against Awami League MP MA Latif’s billboard, which displayed a distorted image of the Bangabandhu.

“We came to know initially that the brawl was between two factions of the organisers. A person was hacked while three others were slightly injured,” he told bdnews24.com.

Police intervened and brought the situation under control. “We are looking to see whether there were other motives,” said the police official.

Sujan Barman, joint secretary of Awami League’s student front in the city, who was one of the organisers of the protest, said, “We were attacked while returning from the demonstration. We have no idea who the attackers were.”
