His comment comes at a time when JP is facing stern criticism for playing the dual role of being the main opposition party at the 10th Parliament and also part of the Cabinet.

State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu is one of the three Cabinet members from his party.

He made the comment at a press conference at Kishorganj on Saturday against the backdrop of JP Chairman HM Ershad’s recent advice to the party members to leave Cabinet to establish JP as the main opposition party.

“I think we are being able to strengthen our party with government support,” Chunnu said when asked if his party would face existential crisis for staying in the Cabinet.
The State Minister said that JP was yet to decide whether they would leave the Cabinet.
“Our Presidium meeting is due tomorrow (Sunday). We will accept the decision of the presidium committee and parliamentary board,” he said.
Reacting to the recent media reports that JP wanted more seats in the Cabinet, Chunnu said, “This is solely the Prime Minister’s prerogative.”
Ershad recently emphasised on leaving the Cabinet saying, “People are confused whether we are in the ruling party or in the opposition.”
A group of JP leaders, including Presidium Member and leader of opposition in parliament, Rowshan Ershad, is not in favour of leaving the Cabinet.
Criticising BNP’s activities in the Parliament, Chunnu said, “JP does not want to be a trouble making opposition party in the Parliament.
“We want good environment in the house. We will cooperate with the government in their good works and will protest if there is anything that goes against the public interest,” Chunnu added.
