She has asserted that her Awami League party will usher in an economic freedom in the country.

She was addressing a programme to inaugurate Kadamtali Flyover, Bangabandhu Avenue and two murals of the Bangabandhu, and lay the foundation stone of an elevated expressway in Chittagong on Saturday.

She also launched two other projects.

"Awami League stands for development. On the other hand BNP only loots, launders money and indulges in corruption whenever it comes to power. They even embezzle orphans' money," Hasina said.

"Awami League will bring economic freedom to the country and build a prosperous Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation.

"We will make Bangladesh a middle-income country within 2021 and a developed nation by 2041," she added.

She slated the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami saying, "They don't want to recognise our victory in the Liberation War. They don't believe in our freedom."

She said the BNP-Jamaat alliance “wants to be with the defeated force - Pakistan.”

"We believe in peace and development while BNP burns people alive in the name of protests," the prime minister said.

She also highlighted her government's efforts to save the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong.
